Ultimate Descents Nepal runs a series of Kayak Clinics each season. These introductory courses are designed for those with little or no previous kayaking experience. Throughout the 4-day clinic, all the basic skills including paddle strokes, Eskimo rolls, Eskimo rescue and the art of reading whitewater will be covered. The priority is safety, not forgetting however, the joys of a more intimate relationship with the magical Himalayan Whitewater!
Our instructors are some of the best whitewater paddlers and kayak instructors in the world with a strong history of running rivers worldwide. The clinics are supported by state-of-the-art rafting equipments, which carry all personal gears, camping and other supplies down the river to our campsite.
The Seti River is one of the most beautiful and pristine rivers in the Himalayas. With dense remote jungles, exquisite sandy beaches and class II - III whitewater runs, this is the perfect river for beginner kayakers.
ITINERARY- 4 DAYS (Pokhara - Pokhara)
Please note that there will be a pre-departure briefing at our office in Pokhara at 6 p.m., a day before the expedition. This is the chance to get the group together and discuss about the Clinic. During the meeting, you will get a chance to meet the instructors and the support group and we can answer any final queries that you may have, give out personal gear bags and collect money for beer kitty. Afterwards, we all will probably head to one of the local favorites for a relaxed meal.
After breakfast, we head to the boathouse in Pokhara to be kitted with the means of transportation for the next 4 days i.e. the kayak and all the personal kayaking gears. Once everyone is kitted and fitted, we head to Fewa Lake in Pokhara and spend the day familiarizing ourselves with being in a kayak, covering the basic paddle strokes and aim to perfecting the perfect still Eskimo roll. We break for lunch and continue our water acrobatics well into the late afternoon.
We head back to the boathouse to change into dry clothes, set up our bedding for the night on the big compound and enjoy some real home cooking.
DAY 2 - 3
We wake up the next morning for early breakfast and then board our chartered bus. It is 2 hours drive from Pokhara to our put-in point below Damauli. From here, until take-out, we live, breathe and sleep kayaking. We wake up early each morning to get a good start on the day and with the combination of riverside theoretical and whitewater practical instruction to hone those much needed skills, before long, you’ll be looking for that perfect play hole to show off your surfing techniques!
On average, we paddle 4 - 6 hours each day. You’ll quickly begin to feel the muscles you never knew existed before. We camp out each night on river beaches and after enjoying a hearty meal, there is time to relax by the campfire with a hot rum punch, exchanging and often exaggerating, whitewater tales and experiences.
Although progress and skill depends on the individual, by day 4, most clients have a reliable whitewater roll and easily make their way through Cass III rapids on the last day. We kayak to the take-out point at Gai Ghat, load the bus and relax on the return journey to Pokhara. After a much needed hot shower and change of clothes, the group usually gets together to enjoy an end of the trip meal at one of the popular restaurants in Pokhara.
NOTE: All kayaking equipments and safety gears, private transport to and from the river ex- Pokhara, dry bags, river permits, tents, meals (except breakfast on day 1), guides and raft support are included in the trip cost. Clients must bring their own sleeping bag, mat and personal clothing. Expenses of a personal nature are not included.
Ultimate Descents Nepal`s staff are expert kayakers and instructors and they are always willing to share their enthusiasm and expertise. We encourage kayakers to join any of our trips. There is always an expert safety kayaker along with any expedition so you needn’t worry about being alone out there. In fact, we often have three or more kayakers on the water. This is a great river for intermediate to advanced kayakers. Most rapids are pool-drop and there are surfing waves almost all the way down the river. You can spend a lot more time just enjoying yourself with the rafts taking all your gears and food. You’ve just got to make sure that it doesn’t look like too much fun, as some of the rafters may want to try it. We have high quality kayaks so please give us the details of what kayak and equipment you would like to use and we will put it aside for you.
